Zumwalt West shakes off slow start, wins second quarter
In a start reminiscent of the teams’ Dec. 26 semifinal game at the Visitation Christmas Tournament, the Fort Zumwalt West Jaguars have shaken off a slow start to win the second quarter but still trail Incarnate Word Academy 24-15 at halftime of the Class 5 girls semifinal at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
Incarnate took the 13-3 lead after the first quarter but West’s Katelyn Kingsborough has two putback baskets as the Jaguars have managed to stay within striking distance with 16 minutes to play.
Headed into the locker room, Chloe Nelson’s 11 points leads Incarnate. The Red Knights have also gotten six points from Jazmin Hitchens.
Kingsborough’s six points to go along with five rebounds have paced Zumwalt West while Janna Swopshire has three points.
The winner of Thursday’s game will face the Kickapoo/Blue Springs winner Saturday while the losers of the two games will play in Friday’s thrid place game.
