At Parkway North, the purple and white were lined deep, 90 strong, and in their moaning baritone recited choreographed chants during calisthenics.

Meanwhile, grey skies and cool temperatures greeted most West County area athletes as the start of the 2009 sports season officially began on Monday.

“It all builds up to right now,” MICDS senior offensive lineman Scott Burkham said. “Everyone is excited about starting the year off on the right foot and getting things going.”

Josh Smith starts his second season as head coach at MICDS.
