A 6-foot-1 senior guard, Graham closed out January by scoring 24 points against Bayless to reach 1,000 career points. Graham followed with 19 points against Howell North to become the school’s career scoring leader. Graham, who also holds the school record for most 3-pointers, is among the area leaders in scoring at 20.5 a game. He was named to the all-tournament team at Fox and is a returning first-team all-conference selection.
Kara Johnson
Principia basketball
A 5-foot-11 sophomore post player, Johnson was the chairman of the boards for the Panthers last week, averaging 15.7 rebounds in three victories. She had 12 rebounds against Burroughs, 18 vs. St. Elizabeth and 14 points and 17 rebounds vs. Visitation. A first-year varsity player, Johnson is among the area rebounding leaders with more than 11 a game.
Jordynn Martin
Lafayette basketball
A 5-foot-8 sophomore guard, Martin is one of the top offensive threats in the area. She is averaging nearly 28 points in her last five games — pouring in 32 against both Hazelwood Central and Marquette — and is averaging a team-high 16.3 points this season. Martin was named first-team all-tournament at Marquette and second-team all-tournament at Visitation. A first-team all-conference basketball player as a freshman, Martin played varsity soccer that school year and was on the field hockey team this past fall.
Justin Ragland
St. Louis U. High hockey
A 5-foot-11, 150-pound junior goaltender, Ragland stopped 43 of 45 shots in the Jr. Bills’ recent 3-2 victory over CBC. It was the second time Ragland has been in goal for a win over perennial league champion CBC this season; he stopped 27 of 28 shots in a 2-1 win over the Cadets in November. Ragland has a 10-3-1 record on the season with a save percentage of 92 and a goals-against average of 1.82.
Josh Ramsey
Valley Park basketball
A 6-foot-7 senior center, Ramsey, who is averaging 18 points, leads the area in rebounding (15.2 a game) and is second in blocked shots (5). He kicked off February in style with big games against Crossroads (23 points, 17 rebounds, 11 blocks), Bayless (12 points, 17 rebounds, seven blocks) and Dupo (20 points, 17 rebounds, eight blocks). Ramsey, in his first full season at Valley Park after transferring a year ago, has been named to all-tournament teams at Chester and Affton.
Mech Spraggins
Belleville West wrestling
A freshman, Spraggins won the Class 3A regional title at 103 at Granite City last Saturday, beating the home team’s Briar King 3-1 in the title match. Spraggins has also won tournament titles at Mascoutah, Lincoln, Mahomet-Seymour and Francis Howell. Spraggins, No. 6 in the latest state rankings, is 37-0, making him one of only two unbeaten Metro East wrestlers. He won five national titles before high school and is also a standout football and baseball player.
Terrel Wilbourn
Howell Central wrestling
A junior, Wilbourn won the individual title at 130 at the Francis Howell Central tournament last weekend. Also this season, Wilbourn (44-0) was the GAC Conference Tournament champion and winner of tournament titles at Lindbergh, Lee’s Summit, Granite City and Winnetonka. Wilbourn took fifth as a freshman (40-4) and won a Missouri Class 3 title at 112 a year ago, finishing 46-2.
