Parkway South’s state champ in 500 free is Post-Dispatch swimmer of year.

Ever since being diagnosed at a young age with Asperger’s Syndrome — a form of autism — Fort Zumwalt North senior Daniel Price has worked hard to overcome perceived limitations.

The 500 freestyle championship at the boys state swimming meet at the Rec-Plex on Saturday figured to be a St. Louis area duel between Parkway South’s Andrew Kilkenny and Marquette’s Garin Marlow.

 Fort Zumwalt South’s Friedhoff brothers had to deal with their own personal dramas Friday during the first day of the state swim meet at the Rec-Plex.

For most elite high school swimmers, this weekend’s boys state swimming meet at the St. Peter’s Rec-Plex is the culmination of an entire year’s worth of work. The attention of those lucky enough to qualify is focused entirely on the water this week in the pursuit of faster times and personal bests.
